Who Is Darren Rowse?

DarrenIf you’ve ended up on this blog you’ve probably had something to do with me or one of the blogs that I write already – but for those of you still yet to know who I am….

Hi…. I’m Darren Rowse, nice to meet you.

Let me give you the quick version of who I am and what I do.

Family

I live in Melbourne Australia with my wife (’V') and two young boys (’X', who is 3 and ‘H’ who is 1).

Work/Career

For work I’m a blogger. I’ve been blogging since 2002 and have been doing it ‘professionally’ (or at least earning a full time living from the medium) since 2004/5. You can find my blogs listed in my sidebar and hear a little more about how I became a full time blogger here.

Before I was a blogger I worked in quite a few jobs but had mainly been working in churches as a minister (mainly with youth and young adults) for around 10 years. I was also the team leader for the ‘planting’ of a new emerging church LivingRoom here in Melbourne in 2002.

I have a degree in Theology (it took me around 10 years to complete) and half a degree in Marketing (I loved the marketing aspects of the course but hated the stats and accounting).

Passion and Personality

I’m an extreme introvert but love people (I just get a little tired when I don’t get time by myself). I’m a little shy and probably take a little time to get to know at first but like to think of myself as a fairly friendly guy.

My passions seem to revolve around:

  • communication – whether it be written or spoken word
  • community – most of what I’ve done over the last 10 years has revolved around building communities (online and offline)
  • helping people achieve their potential

Lastly – I’m a fairly entrepreneurial spirit. I love dreaming up ideas, starting new things and letting my creative juices loose on projects that I often start up on an impulse. Many of these projects have failed but I’ve been fortunate enough to be able to make a few key ones work and make a living from it.

This blog is a place for me to get some of the stuff I’ve been thinking about come out. I’m not sure where it’ll end up but suspect there will be the odd rant, a few reflections on life, an occasional half thought through theory on some aspect of personal development and a few observations, stories and accounts on what I’ve been doing and observing lately.
